    With the threat of Covid 19 right behind the corner, the world needs to undergo a transformation to revolutionise the way we interact with everyday things – which are anti- microbial – which would focus on hindering the spread of the coronavirus. Our company has thus developed a revolutionary chemical which is the first of its kind not just in India but the world! An antiviral, anti-bacterial as well as anti-fungal patent pending chemical which is 100% biodegradable. This type of solution also proves to be beneficial in the long term, as it prevents pollution of the environment.

    The solution used in our treatment is a type of quaternary ammonium compound. Quaternary ammonium compounds are one of the most widely used disinfectants today because of their broad spectrum effectiveness. Quaternary ammonium compounds work by denaturing the proteins of the bacterial, viral or fungal cell, affecting the metabolic reactions of the cell and causing vital substances to leak out of the cell, which then causes death. Because they are charged particles, they are readily adsorbed on the fabric surfaces. Molecular interaction of our solution was done by adsorbing the patent pending chemical with antimicrobial properties on our cellulose based product samples and comparing it with the undesized samples. The bactericidal activity of the patent pending chemical treated product was evaluated by a simulated in- use method. The samples in consideration adsorbed more quaternary compounds than acid or enzyme desized samples. Sample 1 adsorbed more quaternary at the lower concentrations than sample 2, but at the highest concentration (1:250) sample 2 adsorbed slightly more than sample 1. Comparison of the adsorbability of our product and their components indicated that the tightness of weave influenced the amount of quaternary adsorbed on our product. The large differences in adsorbability between desized and undesized samples could not be explained solely by removal of starch. Vegetative cells of Bacillus cereus are most sensitive to the antibacterial activity of the treated samples, followed closely by Brevibacterium ammoniagenes. Staphylococcus aureus was more variable in its response and required fairly large amounts of quaternary for sterilization. Proteus was the most resistant, and even at the 20- to 22-mg level only 50 per cent of the inoculated flasks were sterilized by Sample 1 and 23 percent by Sample 2.

    AATCC testing: AATCC testing comprises of the testing where microorganism is grown in the liquid culture and the concentration of the test microorganism is standardized. Then the microbial culture will be diluted in sterile nutritive solution. After that, control and test fabric swatches will be inoculated with microorganisms. The inoculation will be performed such that the microbial suspension touches only the fabric (see original method for details). Bacteria levels on both control and test fabrics are determined at time zero by elution in a large volume of neutralizing broth, followed by dilution and plating. A control is run to verify that the neutralization/elution method effectively neutralizes the antimicrobial agent in the fabric. Additional inoculated control and test fabrics are allowed to incubate, undisturbed in sealed jars, for 24 hours. After incubation, microbial concentrations will be determined. Reduction of microorganisms relative to initial concentrations and the control fabric will have to be calculated in the end.
